Ashnil Mara Camp, with 40 luxury tents, is located in the Maasai Mara National Reserve and close to the Mara River famous for the wildebeest migration.
This is a brand new camp, and they were still doing the finishing touches when we stayed in May 2010 - but the tents and the whole decor etc. did the brand proud. Like Ashnil Aruba in Tsavo East, this camp is very up-to-date and modern with contemporary stylish decor. Talk about attention to detail - all the lampshades in the lounge area are exquisitely carved ostrich eggs, each of which needed it’s own individual licence! It really benefits from being so new as everything is clean, modern and stylish.
The Mara, more often than not has been described as Kenya’s finest wildlife reserve due to the abundant flora and fauna and the gentle rolling grasslands that ensure the animals are never out of sight. Everything about it is outstanding. After 4 - 5 hours drive from Nairobi, this is the perfect place to make a stopover for a night or two. There are scheduled flights from Nairobi (45 min) and Mombasa (2.5 hours)
